We are saddened to announce the passing of former Chairman John Carr in December 2021 and send our condolences to his wife Shannon in this difficult time.
John joined Berkshire Squash as a committee member in 1981, when the association was formed. He also managed the juniors in 1984/85 - many of whom can still be seen playing in the leagues today! Whilst he was Chairman from 2008 to 2012, it is for his role as League Organiser that he is best known. Whilst always fair, John ran the leagues with an 'iron fist' from 1985 to 2012 and was instrumental in so many aspects of squash within the county. Together with his wife Shannon, John was the face of Berkshire Squash for over 30 years.
John was always helpful and truly committed to Berkshire Squash and, as Des confirmed, "John was only ever a phone call away, even long after he had ended his role on the committee". To help recognise his contribution, we would like to have an annual tribute in his honour. If anyone has any suggestions please contact Des and a conclusion will be made in the New Year.
For those wishing to attend, the funeral will be held on Monday 24th January at 2.00 pm, at the Thatcham Crematorium. No flowers please, but any donations would be gratefully received to the Royal Berkshire NHSFT Charity, quoting “U185-Enborne Dialysis Fund”.
