We hosted our 2020/21 Doubles Championship at Reading University on the 25th of June 2022. This tournament had been delayed due to COVID, but we decided to play the event as we had the whiskey classes engraved already!
Unfortunately, participation numbers were down on normal - probably caused by playing the event in the summer to allow for the 2021/22 event to be scheduled for this Autumn. However, 7 pairs entered and everyone enjoyed it. We all had a lot of fun, although sometimes the markers got a bit confused who was serving!
There were 2 groups. In Group 1, Jeremy Baker and Jack Waldron won all their matches but the second spot was all down to the last match and Matt Baynes and Kevin Lewis won one more game than the other 2 in the group thus securing second spot to play in the Plate Final. In Group 2, Simon Street and Dave Weston won all their matches and Adrian Hayward and Joe Blackmur came second.
Both finals were 3/1 and well done to Jeremy and Jack for beating Simon and Dave in the main event and Adrian and Joe for beating Matt and Kevin the Plate final. Both matches were well contested and great fun to watch! Please click here to see the full results.
Thank you to the markers - you did a great job. A massive thank you to Peter from Karakal for sponsoring the event and to the University of Reading (particularly Michael and Mickie and the team for helping me with the IT and the facilities on the day). We look forward to the next event and hopefully this will be better supported. Thank you.
